Door Creek Watershed

Our neighborhood is part of the Door Creek watershed, which plays a major role in how water moves through our area during and after rain events.

In recent years, the City of Madison has studied this watershed to better understand flooding, stormwater management, and groundwater conditions. These studies show that water-related issues in our area are typically the result of broader system factors, including increased rainfall, aging infrastructure, and natural groundwater conditions.

Because of this, some level of standing water, saturated ground, or sump pump activity may occur during periods of heavy or prolonged rain.

We’ve gathered several City and historical resources below for residents who are interested in learning more about how the watershed functions, what contributes to flooding, and what to expect over time.
